The Teaching Experimental Centre of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering (SESE), the establishment of which was approved in 2018, is a teaching platform specifically designed for experiments and other practices of undergraduates and postgraduates.

The Teaching Experimental Centre adopts “1+N” management model, namely 1 basic experiment platform and 5 professional ones for water, gas, solid, soil, and noise respectively to provide teaching services of experiments and other practices for undergraduates and postgraduates. After the rebuilding of Weida, the Center has moved into the redecorated building, occupying about 1,400 m2 with more than 500 sets of equipment and the total asset over 15 million yuan. Now, 3 full-time staffs including 2 experiment teachers and a senior one, and 15 part-time teachers work here. The Center has provided services for 4 professional experiment courses, 3 practice courses, 2 platform experiment courses, and 1 general course with the average number of person-hours per year over 30,000.

The Teaching Experimental Centre adheres to the idea of the balanced development of knowledge, capability and quality. With focus on the talent training objectives of “foundation consolidation, practice emphasis, capability improvement, and quality development”, the Centre has profoundly improved the quality of basic experiments, intensified engineering technical practices, and refined specialized course design and training programs for large-scale design experiments. So far, the Center has been built into an engineering practice teaching base that provides comminatory training of the engineering basis, advanced technologies, all-round developments, and innovative practices, which is characteristic of modular teaching methods, for all teachers and students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
